It is Invasive Species Week – What You Can Do!
Small actions make a big difference for our local ecosystems.
This annual Invasive Species Awareness Week is an opportunity to educate communities about the plants, pests, and pathogens that threaten native ecosystems, agriculture, and water resources.n
Invasive species outcompete native plants, affect food sources and habitat for wildlife, and threaten our biodiversity. Once established, they are extremely difficult and costly to remove. Prevention and early detection are far more effective than treatment after the fact.
What you can do:
- Learn to identify common invasive species in our region
- Remove invasive plants from your property and dispose of them properly
- Clean, drain, and dry watercraft before moving between water bodies
- Report sightings using iMapInvasives
- Share what you learn with neighbors, friends, and family
