Invasive Species Removal Work Day
WHERE:
Vlei Marsh Preserve, 186 Vlei Road, Rhinebeck
WHEN:
Saturday, July 12, 2024, from 10:00am-12:00PM
Join Jen Adams, Director of Land Stewardship, for a volunteer day at Vlei Marsh in Rhinebeck. Volunteers will learn how to identify and remove invasive wineberry (Rubus phoenicolasius) while also picking and snacking on ripe fruit! This delicious invasive is choking out our native plants and threatening to invade trails with its thorny stems. By picking the fruit and pulling the plant out, we can prevent the plant from growing and reseeding. Last year, volunteers took home pounds of wineberries and made juice and syrups out of them!
Please wear weather appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes. We will provide any tools and gloves you may need.
Please email jen@winnakee.org to sign up and with any questions. Walk-in’s welcome.
