Mothing Night at Vlei Marsh

Join Winnakee staff and interns at Vlei Marsh after hours for a mothing event as part of National Moth Week. We will be attracting moths with white sheets and lights to observe, photograph and identify the different species present at Vlei Marsh – as part of an annual, global event that invites people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in mothing.
You will be able to discover their beauty, life cycles, habitats, and importance in the ecosystem as essential insects whose global populations are rapidly declining.
We will share photos of moths we identify on Winnakee’s Vlei Marsh iNaturalist project. We will also teach you skills to become a “mothing “ citizen science in your own backyard. These contributions help researchers study moth diversity, distribution, and ecology worldwide!
