WALK THE LAND: Bird Walk with Dr. Alan Peterson

Can you detect a blue jay, blue bird or robin just by hearing their call? Distinguish a pileated woodpecker from a yellow-bellied sapsucker through the rhythm of their tree-trunk drumming?  There’s no telling who we might find soaring, landing and paddling in Rhinebeck’s Vlei Marsh Preserve, 165-acres of forest and wetlands protected by the Winnakee Land Trust, but these birds and many others, including the Great Blue Heron, American Coot, Sora, Virginia Rail, Wood Duck, and Common Gallinule, call the property home.

Join Dr. Alan Peterson from the Ralph T. Waterman Bird Club for a two-hour walk and learn from an expert about the Preserve’s fascinating feathered species— their sounds, habits and migration patterns, as well as how to identify them.

Capacity is limited and registration is required. This is a family-friendly event suitable for ages 8 and up.
