Join our Bioblitz
Become a citizen scientist as you visit Winnakee Preserves all summer long. Your observations provide valuable feedback about the ecosystems Winnakee works to protect!
What is a Bioblitz?
A snapshot of biodiversity, a bioblitz gives us a view into our local ecosystem and the health of our habitats. The grasslands of Drayton Grant Park providing vital nesting grounds for birds like Bobolinks and its meadows host a variety of pollinator species such as the endangered Monarch butterflies. Vlei Marsh is designated as a DEC Significant Biodiversity Area in the Hudson Valley, where a rich diversity of bird, amphibian and mammal life can be observed.
Here’s how to get started:

To gather our Biobliz data we will use the iNaturalist app.
1. Download the iNaturalist app and create an account.
2. Join the Drayton Grant Park at Burger Hill – Winnakee Land Trust project and the Vlei Marsh – Winnakee Land Trust project. To do that: navigate to Projects in the iNaturalist app and search for Winnakee.

Winnakee has a simple contest to help you and your family become citizen scientists and track the wonderous pollinators of Burger Hill this summer.
It’s easy to enter: Follow us Instagram and then tag #butterflies_burgerhill or #bees_burgerhill and/or post an iNaturalist observation of our project page. That’s it!
We will give out awards on Sunday, October 15th at our Annual Milkweed Release Party.
